RESOLUTION
Recognizing
February 20, 2008, as "Epilepsy Awareness Day"; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
epilepsy is a condition that affects as many as 2.5 million Americans and kills
42,000 annually; and
WHEREAS,
seizures are the most common neurological disorder of childhood, with 120,000
children in the country receiving medical attention each year due to a first or
newly recognized seizure; and
WHEREAS,
the Leon Bender Foundation and Emory University School of Medicine are partners
in research initiatives that will allow for the discovery of new treatments for
epilepsy; and
WHEREAS,
the National Epilepsy Foundation is inviting patients, caregivers, doctors,
friends and family of epilepsy patients, and volunteers to come to the capitol
on February 20, 2008, to speak to legislators about their concerns for persons
living with epilepsy.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
February 20, 2008, as "Epilepsy Awareness Day" and encourage citizens to
participate in this special observance.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the National Epilepsy
Foundation of Georgia.
