RESOLUTION
Expressing
regret at the passing of Mr. Joshua Willis; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia has lost one of its finest young individuals with the
untimely passing of Joshua Willis; and
WHEREAS,
while the loss of any loved one is a terrible event, the loss of someone young
is especially tragic; and
WHEREAS,
Joshua was born on May 18, 1988, son of Carl Edward Willis and Karen Moates
Willis; and
WHEREAS,
he grew up in Americus, Georgia, and attended Americus-Sumter County High School
where he was an honor graduate and played on the football and tennis teams, and
was a four-year letterman in both; and
WHEREAS,
upon graduation he attended the University of Georgia where he was a long
snapper on the 2006 football team; and
WHEREAS,
he was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a member of the
Americus-Sumter High School Singers; and
WHEREAS,
he attended the First Baptist Church of Americus and was active with the youth
group, the youth choir, the praise band, and the drama team; and
WHEREAS,
his unfortunate departure has left scars upon the hearts of grieving friends,
family, and fellow students.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join
together in honoring the memory of Joshua Willis and extending the deepest and
most sincere condolences to his family and friends.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Joshua
Willis and to the First Baptist Church of Americus.
