RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Sam Allen upon the occasion of his retirement from Valdosta City
Schools; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Sam Allen became the superintendent of Valdosta City Schools in
1997;
and
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Allen began his career with Valdosta City Schools as a social studies
teacher in 1978; and
WHEREAS,
he also served as assistant principal, principal, transportation director, and
assistant superintendent; and
WHEREAS,
he graduated from Valdosta State College in 1977, with a Bachelor of Arts in
history, with a Masters of Education in administration and supervision in 1985,
and with an Education Specialist degree in administration and supervision in
1989; and
WHEREAS,
he has a deep respect for every member of the faculty and staff, the students,
and the alumni, working tirelessly with the school system community and outside
groups to move Valdosta City Schools to a new level of excellence and
performance; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Allen is a civic leader serving on numerous state and regional boards,
including the Georgia Association of School Administrators, the American
Association of School Administrators, and the Georgia Association of Education;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Allen will become Superintendent Emeritus on February 18, 2008, and will
retire at the end of 2008; and
WHEREAS,
the legacy of Sam Allen will include the excellence of Valdosta City Schools
that continues to change lives in positive and lasting
ways.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend Mr. Sam Allen on the occasion of his retirement and his exemplary service to Valdosta City Schools, his community, and this state.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Sam Allen.
