A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Georgia Master Teacher, Susan Brooks; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Susan Brooks teaches at Renfroe Middle School in Decatur, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, she is one of only 97 elementary, middle, and secondary teachers recognized with the certification of Georgia Master Teacher in the State of Georgia in 2007; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Brooks is also certified by the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards in Early Adolescence/Science; and

WHEREAS, Science Scope, the middle school journal of the National Science Association, published two of Mrs. Brooks' articles in 2007; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Master Teacher certification recognizes teachers who demonstrate sustained student achievement and progress in Georgia standardized testing through creative, relevant, and individualized instruction; and

WHEREAS, developed in 2006, this program recognizes the elite group of teachers who have the opportunity to influence student learning and achievement in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Susan Brooks belongs to this elite group of teachers, and the outstanding accomplishments of this distinguished Georgia educator have brought honor to the DeKalb County School System, the DeKalb County community, and the State of Georgia.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize the indispensable services of this outstanding educator, commend her for being named the 2007 Master Teacher, and extend to her their sincerest best wishes for the future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Susan Brooks.
