RESOLUTION
Commending
the Men´s Progressive Club of Columbus, Inc., on the occasion of its
fifty-eighth annual Man of the Year Banquet; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Men´s Progressive Club of Columbus held its fifty-eighth annual Man of
the Year Banquet at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center on January 25,
2008; and
WHEREAS,
the Men´s Progressive Club of Columbus honors and supports those who have
given outstanding service to the organization and the African-American
community; and
WHEREAS,
since it was chartered in 1949, the Men´s Progressive Club of Columbus has
been intricately involved in the social, political, economic, and religious
development of Columbus, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
under a succession of committed leaders, the club´s hard working members,
currently numbering 22 men, have strived to make a difference and have been a
responsible and effective vehicle for positive change in the community;
and
WHEREAS,
the Men´s Progressive Club of Columbus has partnered with others in the
community to achieve great things, including establishing a partnership in
education with the St. Mary´s Magnet Academy to award scholarships to
deserving students; and
WHEREAS,
consistently committed to the pursuit of justice and equality, the leadership
and members of the Men´s Progressive Club of Columbus work with
unparalleled dedication to make Columbus, Georgia a better place to live;
and
WHEREAS,
this body wishes to express its appreciation to the Men´s Progressive Club
for providing leadership and service to their community and the State of
Georgia.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the Men´s Progressive Club of Columbus for its 59 years of outstanding
contributions on behalf of the citizens of this state and join in celebrating
the annual Man of the Year Banquet.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Men´s Progressive
Club of Columbus.
