A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. Grover M. Barfield; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Grover M. Barfield is the Coroner in Macon County, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, in 2006, he was CFR Coroner of the Year; and

WHEREAS, he is an active member of many organizations in his community as chairman of the Macon County Child Abuse Protocol Committee, a member and past chairman of Macon County CFR team, and a 27 year veteran of law enforcement with 24 years of death investigation experience; and

WHEREAS, as an active community servant, he has organized a public seminar and program for battered women, a community program on domestic violence; he has spoken to community members about sudden infant death syndrome; he is trained as a volunteer instructor for child safety seats; he has delivered a program to the Retired Teachers Association of Macon County; and he has participated in a Bible study group, speaking on the duties of a coroner; and

WHEREAS, as a result of his community service, parents have reported they are following his guidance on the prevention of sudden infant death syndrome; more women have reported domestic violence to the local sheriff´s department, local churches are becoming involved in beginning support groups, and family members are reporting suspected domestic violence; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Barfield has been very creative in joining forces with organizations such as Family Connections, using public festivals as a tool to draw public interest and get information to the citizens in Macon County, using local newspapers to spread the word, and maintaining exceptional rapport with medical personnel and law enforcement; and

WHEREAS, on many occasions, Mr. Barfield has gone above and beyond the call of duty as Coroner, visiting families who have lost loved ones, and he has even been known to spend his own money to make certain the surviving family members have all the information available concerning their lost loved ones.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize the exemplary service provided by Mr. Grover M. Barfield and commend him on his service to his community and this state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Grover M. Barfield.
