A RESOLUTION


Commending Mr. Walter John Victor; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Walter John Victor was born on July 1, 1917, in DuPont, Pennsylvania, was inducted into the U.S. Army on January 15, 1941, and served until June 24, 1945; and

WHEREAS, he served during the Second World War in South Africa, and also landed on Utah Beach with the 9th Infantry Division on D-Day, where he and his mates fought for three days to secure the beach, and then moved into France, taking the town of Cherbourg and fighting through France and into Germany; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Victor served bravely and had many close encounters during the war, and by the time of his discharge he was highly decorated, both for service and for heroism, and after his discharge he became employed as a civilian by the army and moved to Atlanta, largely because of his wife, Ruth´s, love of the film Gone With The Wind; and

WHEREAS, Walter and Ruth were married after a short courtship, and shortly thereafter he was overseas for 33 months, and now the couple has been married for 64 years and have had six children, Tony, Tommy, Walker, Johnny, Ward, and Ann-Margaret; and

WHEREAS, he retired after 30 years of civilian service with the U.S. Army, and during that time he did not take a single day of sick leave; and

WHEREAS, he learned photography by taking a night course and began photographing the Atlanta Braves, for 40 years he worked as a freelance photographer, taking many memorable pictures of baseball and celebrities; and

WHEREAS, it is only right and proper that the life of this extraordinary man be honored and celebrated.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body honor the life of Mr. Walter John Victor.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Walter John Victor.
