A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Pastor Martin L. Jakes, Sr.; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Pastor Martin L. Jakes, Sr., is Senior Pastor of Greater Mount Hermon Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, he accepted his call to preach in 1987 and was ordained on April 24, 1994, at the Old Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois, where his late father was the founder; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Jakes attended Loop College in Chicago, Illinois, and Clark Atlanta University where he pursued a Bachelor of Arts in music education; and

WHEREAS, he continued his education in religious studies at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary-Boyce Bible School, Midwest Theological Institute, and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in ministry at the Andersonville Theological Seminary; and

WHEREAS, he has ministered through music on several radio and television broadcasts, one of which is BET's award winning Bobby Jones Gospel Show; and

WHEREAS, his gift of music has allowed him to work with or accompany many jazz and gospel greats such as jazz percussionist Max Roach, saxophonist Jimmy Heath, and Atlanta's songbird Liz Spragins; and

WHEREAS, with his vision to inspire people to reach their destiny and develop their God-given talents, he founded and serves as president and CEO of Nitram International Company, LLC, and Hands Lifting Humanity, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, he is married to the former Betty J. Maddox and is the proud father of three sons; and
WHEREAS, his goal in life is to see the kingdom of God advanced and the lives of God's people enriched by inspirational preaching, the practical instruction of God's Word, the uplifting of the poor, and spreading the gospel throughout the world.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend and recognize Pastor Martin L. Jakes, Sr., for his excellent foresight and outstanding leadership.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Pastor Martin L. Jakes, Sr.
