A RESOLUTION


Commending Mr. Andrew J. Harris; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Andrew Harris has had a long and distinguished career as a public servant, spanning more than 37 years; and

WHEREAS, he is a native of Gordon County and earned his B.A. in political science and M.S. in public administration degrees from the University of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, his professional choices led him into an early career with state government, serving as a budget analyst in the Georgia General Assembly, a policy analyst in the Office of Planning and Budget, and as legislative director for the newly formed Department of Technical and Adult Education; and

WHEREAS, he later joined the ranks of the Georgia Institute of Technology, first as special assistant at the Georgia Tech Research Institute, then as the director of government relations, and more recently as special assistant to the president and director of government relations as well as adjunct professor in the School of Public Policy; and

WHEREAS, he has served his profession and community through his participation and leadership in numerous professional and civic organizations, including mayor pro tem. of the City of Decatur, past president and board member of the Georgia Municipal Association, member of the board of directors of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, and a founding member of the Georgia China Alliance; and

WHEREAS, a founding member of the Shoeshine Gang will be missed by his colleagues at the University System of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper that he be recognized by this body upon the occasion of his forthcoming retirement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body congratulate Mr. Andrew Harris upon his forthcoming retirement and commend him for his many achievements and contributions to the welfare of this state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Andrew Harris.
