RESOLUTION
Honoring
and commending Dennis Baxter, extraordinary public servant, on the occasion of
his retirement; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Dennis Baxter is a native Georgian, having grown up in Glennville, Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
he began his service to the City of Pooler in 1984 as a part-time building
inspector, later serving as city planner, and in 1991, he became Pooler´s
city manager; and
WHEREAS,
he served as city manager of Pooler from 1991 until his retirement in September,
2007; and
WHEREAS,
Dennis Baxter has served the City of Pooler with amazing distinction,
commendable dedication, and great honor since 1984; and
WHEREAS,
as city manager, he made significant contributions toward the efficient and
effective operation of city government, overseeing tremendous city growth and
ensuring that the city expanded only when it was in the best interest of its
citizens; and
WHEREAS,
he successfully managed many projects for the city, and his most notable
accomplishments include keeping the financial burden of commercial growth off
the people of Pooler and on the commercial developers, expanding the waste water
treatment expansion plans, ensuring sidewalks were built for school children,
and placing lifesaving traffic lights on the Pooler Parkway; and
WHEREAS,
throughout his more than 20 years of service as city manager, Dennis Baxter was
known as a true public servant with a reputation for caring for those whom he
served; and
WHEREAS,
it is highly appropriate that Dennis Baxter be accorded due recognition for his
meritorious public service to the citizens of Pooler and the State of
Georgia.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body honor
Dennis Baxter for his loyal service to the City of Pooler and extend to him
their best wishes during his years of retirement.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dennis Baxter.
