RESOLUTION
Commending
the Georgia Tech women's tennis team on winning the 2007 NCAA National Women's
Tennis Championship; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
in 2007 the Georgia Tech women's tennis team became the first school in Atlantic
Coast Conference history to capture the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship; and
WHEREAS,
the team captured the NCAA title in an outstanding 4-2 win over the University
of California, Los Angeles, in Athens, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
this exceptional team of champions includes team members Amanda Craddock,
Kristen Flower, Whitney McRay, Amanda McDowell, Kristi Miller, Tarryn Rudman,
Alison Silverio, and Christy Striplin; and
WHEREAS,
outstanding leadership was provided by head coach and Intercollegiate Tennis
Association National Coach of the Year Bryan Shelton, assistant coach Mariel
Verban, and volunteer assistant coach Robin Stephenson; and
WHEREAS,
these young women and coaches brought pride and honor to their alma mater,
fellow alumni, families, state, and nation by their exemplary sportsmanship and
exceptional performance on the court.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the Georgia Tech women's tennis team and its coaches for their outstanding
accomplishments and extend sincerest best wishes for their continued
success.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Head Coach Bryan Shelton.
