RESOLUTION
Commending
and congratulating quarterback Donald Eugene "D. J." Shockley, Jr.; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Atlanta native, North Clayton High School graduate, and University of Georgia
graduate standout D.J. Shockley was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2006
NFL Draft; and
WHEREAS,
he is the first University of Georgia player to be selected by the Falcons since
1988; and
WHEREAS,
in 2005, he played in 12 out of 13 games for the University of Georgia,
completing 173 of 310 passes for 2,588 yards and 24 touchdowns with only five
interceptions; and
WHEREAS,
his outstanding performance against the LSU Tigers in the 2005 SEC Championship
ensured the Bulldogs' 34-14 victory and earned him the MVP award of the
championship game; and
WHEREAS,
friends, family members, and fans in Atlanta have watched with excitement and
pride as this promising athlete rose to greatness; and
WHEREAS,
his hard work and commitment to his team and his sport have set a fine example
of sportsmanship for all young athletes in the State of Georgia.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
commending Atlanta Falcon and Atlanta native Donald Eugene "D. J." Shockley and
extend their hearty congratulations on being drafted as a quarterback for the
NFL.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Donald Eugene "D. J."
Shockley.
