RESOLUTION
Recognizing
the Booker T. Washington High School Class of 1957 Reunion; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
members of the Booker T. Washington High School Class of 1957 will host reunion
activities June 30 through July 7 of 2007 to celebrate their 50th class reunion;
and
WHEREAS,
Booker T. Washington High School was founded in 1924 under the auspices of the
Atlanta Board of Education with the late Charles L. Harper serving as the first
principal and was the only African-American high school for 23 years thereafter;
and
WHEREAS,
in 1986, Booker T. Washington High School was placed on the National Register of
Historic Places; and
WHEREAS,
Booker T. Washington High School has a proud history and an alumni base that has
contributed greatly to the spirit, growth, and progress of Atlanta, Fulton
County, and Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
this 50th year reunion celebration for the 333 members of the graduating class
of Booker T. Washington High School is a joyous occasion for old friends to be
remembered and old memories and friendships to be refreshed.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
the Booker T. Washington High School Class of 1957.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Booker T. Washington
High School Class of 1957.
