RESOLUTION
Honoring
and remembering the life of Mrs. Betty Jo Sheriff Terry; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia lost one of its most estimable citizens with the passing of
Mrs. Betty Jo Sheriff Terry on April 12, 2007; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Terry was born in Stephens County on May 27, 1934, to the late John Deaver
Sheriff and the late Emily Stowe Sheriff; and
WHEREAS,
she was a woman of patience and compassion, a devoted wife and mother, and a
model Georgian; and
WHEREAS,
she was active in many organizations, including Gateway Garden Club, Social
Circle Garden Club, the Red Hat Society, and Bouldercrest Baptist Church;
and
WHEREAS,
she was a devotee of the Social Circle United Methodist Church, a member of the
Stanton Memorial Library Board, a regent from 2005 to 2006 of The National
Society Daughters of the American Revolution, president of the Historic
Preservation Society of Social Circle, and secretary and treasurer of the AARP
in Social Circle; and
WHEREAS,
although the light of the world dimmed with her passing, her memory shall live
on in the hearts and minds of her family and friends; and
WHEREAS,
she was preceded in death by her son, William David Terry, and is survived by
her husband, David Carlton Terry; her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and
Katherine Terry; her daughter and son-in-law, Penny and David Keener; and
grandchildren, Stephen Carlton Terry and Serena Jo Terry; and
WHEREAS,
all of Georgia has been blessed and enriched by the life of Mrs. Betty Jo
Sheriff Terry, a woman with such great character and qualities, and it is
fitting for the Senate to express regret at her passing and extend condolences
to her family.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join
together to express their deepest regret at the passing of Mrs. Betty Jo Sheriff
Terry and extend their most sincere condolences to her grieving friends and
family.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mrs. Betty
Jo Sheriff Terry.
