A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life of and expressing regret at the passing of George R. Jacobus, Jr.; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, on January 4, 2007, the State of Georgia lost one of its finest and most distinguished citizens with the passing of George R. Jacobus, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, this long-time resident of St. Simons Island was long recognized by the citizens of his community for the vital role he played in leadership and for his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia and the United States; and

WHEREAS, he diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community as evidenced dramatically by his many years of superlative service as a school teacher; and

WHEREAS, this extraordinary man also served as an active member of the American Legion Guale Post 4092, Veterans of Foreign Wars; the Golden Isles Lions Club, Lodge 707 F & AM; St. Marks Episcopal Church; and the Glynn County Republican Party; and

WHEREAS, he served his country with honor and distinction as a member of the United States army during the Second World War as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division; and

WHEREAS, he was renowned for his significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of his community, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, this singular gentleman was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and
WHEREAS, the passing of this generous, kind, and devoted family man leaves an unfillable void in the hearts and lives of his family and friends.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body express their deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of George R. Jacobus, Jr., and commend him for a lifetime of efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of George R. Jacobus, Jr.
