RESOLUTION
Celebrating
the life of Michael Cantlebary and offering condolences on his passing; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Michael Cantlebary was born on August 24, 1952, in Raleigh, North Carolina, and
moved to Tifton, Georgia, with his wife, in 1978, to pursue a career working
with troubled youth; and
WHEREAS,
he worked in juvenile justice for many years and was a program manager for the
Department of Juvenile Justice in Tifton; and
WHEREAS,
he was known around town as "the probation officer"; and
WHEREAS,
he was an active supporter of the Optimist Club and Big Brothers and Big Sisters
and he shared his passion for soccer with the community by coaching youth teams
for 16 years; and
WHEREAS,
he was fond of "unusual" ties and flamboyant dress; and
WHEREAS,
he is survived by his loving wife, Linda, and two devoted daughters, Layla and
Hallie, as well as other family and friends; and
WHEREAS,
Michael was a funny, compassionate, intelligent, generous man, who fought for
the underdog, and acted as the voice of many who had no voice, and he leaves
behind a huge void in the community and he will be sorely missed by
all.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body celebrate
the life of Michael Cantlebary and offer their sincerest condolences to his
family and friends upon his passing along with sincere appreciation for his
selfless service to the State of Georgia, the youth of his community, and the
positive impact he had on the lives of many.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Michael
Cantlebary.
