A RESOLUTION


Expressing regret at the passing of the Colonel John E. McGowan; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia lost one of its finest and most distinguished citizens with the passing of Colonel John E. McGowan; and

WHEREAS, this native son of Candler County was long recognized by the citizens of his community for the vital role he played in leadership and jurisprudence and for his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia and the United States; and

WHEREAS, he diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community as evidenced dramatically by his many years of superlative service as a member of the Georgia Army National Guard; and

WHEREAS, this extraordinary man also served as assistant to the president of the Georgia Farm Bureau and served as a superintendent of the State Hospital Farm in Milledgeville and as an extension dairyman for the University of Georgia College of Agriculture; and

WHEREAS, he was a Mason, a Shriner, a member of the American Dairy Science Association, National Guard Association of Georgia, the National Guard Association of the United States, and an active member of the Christian Church of Hardwick; and

WHEREAS, he was renowned for his significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of his community, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, this singular gentleman was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and

WHEREAS, the passing of this generous, kind, and devoted family man leaves an unfillable void in the hearts and lives of his family and friends.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body express their deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of the Colonel John E. McGowan and commend him for a lifetime of efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Colonel John E. McGowan.
