RESOLUTION
Commending
and expressing gratitude to Emily Jennette, the 2007 Georgia Teacher of the
Year; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Emily Jennette, who is widely recognized throughout this state as the
personification of excellence in education, has been selected at the 2007
Georgia Teacher of the Year; and
WHEREAS,
in addition to capturing this coveted title, she also won numerous prizes,
including a $16,000 technology package for her classroom and a year's worth of
ice cream for her students; and
WHEREAS,
at just 30 years of age, Emily Jennette, who teaches at Sawyer Road Elementary
School in Marietta, has had a distinguished career devoted to making sure every
student in her class, ranging from English language learners to the academically
gifted, is learning; and
WHEREAS,
in her seven years of teaching she has demonstrated that she is a great
teacher-leader, inspiring students to be leaders in the learning process and
taking personal responsibility for motivating and meeting the individual needs
of her students; and
WHEREAS,
by starting each school day with the song "Brain Juice," she gets her students
ready to learn and encourages students to believe in themselves, to pursue every
opportunity for personal growth, to make a commitment to excellence in every
aspect of their lives, and to develop a love of learning which will be
beneficial to them throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS,
as the Georgia Teacher of the Year, Emily Jennette will serve as an educational
ambassador for all Georgia public schools, their students, and teachers, taking
a one-year sabbatical during which she will speak throughout the state, conduct
staff development activities, serve on state-wide committees, and participate in
a number of state-wide
conferences.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the 2007 Georgia Teacher of the Year, Emily Jennette, and express their gratitude for the great credit this outstanding educator reflects upon the City of Marietta, her school, the school system, and the State of Georgia.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Emily Jennette.
