RESOLUTION
Commending
Pilgrim´s Pride Corporation and its officers; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
with its recent acquisition of Gold Kist Inc., Pilgrim´s Pride Corporation
now ranks as the #1 chicken company in Georgia and the United States;
and
WHEREAS,
Georgia is now the company´s largest state for chicken production and
processing, and, with the recent acquisition of Gold Kist adding to its
existing operations in Georgia, Pilgrim´s Pride will have one or more
agribusiness facilities (processing plant, prepared foods plant, further
processing plant, hatchery, feed mill, and sales and administrative offices) in
the following counties: Carroll, Cherokee, Clarke, Coffee, DeKalb, Elbert,
Gilmer, Gwinnett, Gordon, Hall, Haralson, Jackson, Pickens, and Whitfield;
and
WHEREAS,
Pilgrim´s Pride has broiler growers and hatching egg producers in 53
counties: Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Banks, Barrow, Bartow, Ben Hill, Berrien,
Carroll, Catoosa, Cherokee, Clarke, Clinch, Coffee, Dade, Dawson, Douglas,
Elbert, Fannin, Floyd, Forsyth, Franklin, Fulton, Gilmer, Gordon, Greene,
Gwinnett, Habersham, Hall, Haralson, Hart, Heard, Irwin, Jackson, Jeff Davis,
Lanier, Lumpkin, Madison, Morgan, Murray, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Paulding, Pickens,
Polk, Stephens, Union, Walker, Walton, Ware, White, Whitfield, and Wilkes;
and
WHEREAS,
Pilgrim´s Pride has had a significant positive impact on Georgia´s
economy and continues to benefit this state through job and farm opportunities
and tax revenues; and
WHEREAS,
Pilgrim´s Pride has been active in the Georgia Poultry Federation, Georgia
Poultry Processors Association, Georgia Poultry Improvement Association,
National Chicken
Council, U.S. Poultry & Egg Association, and U.S. Poultry & Egg Export Council; and
Council, U.S. Poultry & Egg Association, and U.S. Poultry & Egg Export Council; and
WHEREAS,
Pilgrim´s Pride has earned numerous awards for quality and service from its
customers, as well as accolades within its industry, including the Distinguished
Supplier Award from Darden Restaurants, Inc., the world´s largest casual
dining restaurant company; the 2005 Vendor Partnership Award from Jack in the
Box Inc.; the Poultry Supplier of the Year Award from Zaxby´s, a major
chicken restaurant chain; and the Outstanding Vendor of the Year Award from
Fry´s Food Stores, a division of The Kroger Co. Pilgrim´s Pride has
also been named among the "Most Admired Companies in America" by
Fortune
for four consecutive years and was named one of the "Best Managed Companies in
America" by
Forbes
in 2006; and
WHEREAS,
the corporation´s officers are Lonnie "Bo" Pilgrim, chairman; Clifford
Butler, vice chairman; O.B. Goolsby, Jr., president and chief executive officer;
Richard A. Cogdill, chief financial officer, executive vice president,
secretary, and treasurer; and J. Clinton Rivers, chief operating
officer.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Pilgrim´s Pride Corporation and its corporate officers for their
outstanding achievements and contributions to the welfare of this
state.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Pilgrim´s Pride
Corporation.
