RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Brett Stanton, principal of Valdosta High School; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Brett Stanton has provided more than 24 years of phenomenal service in public
education as a teacher and administrator throughout the State of Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
Brett Stanton grew up in Acworth, Georgia, where he learned at an early age the
importance of both good grades and extracurricular activities, and after
graduating from North Cobb High School, he accepted a football scholarship to
Newberry College in Newberry, South Carolina; and
WHEREAS,
he taught Social Studies and AP U.S. History in Cobb County for several years
before accepting a position in administration; and
WHEREAS,
he has earned two master's degrees and a specialist degree in leadership from
Jacksonville State University, received training through the Georgia Leadership
Institute for School Improvement, and is a trained facilitator and chairperson
for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Improvement Process;
and
WHEREAS,
in his first year as principal, the faculty of Valdosta High School opened the
school year by singing "I Can See Clearly Now," and he has since led the school
with extraordinary energy and optimism, putting equal emphasis on academics and
extracurricular activities; and
WHEREAS,
with a firm commitment to the motto, "teachers have the right to teach and
students have the right to learn," Brett Stanton has encouraged Valdosta High
School to complete the transition from a good high school to a great high
school, championing programs such as the "High Schools that Work" program, the
Student of the Month and Teacher of the Month programs, the All A's Luncheon,
and the No Failure League (NFL); and
WHEREAS,
his immense dedication to public education is surpassed only by his loving
devotion to his family, and he has shared more than 18 wonderful years of
marriage with his wife, Denise, and is the stellar father of Katie and twins
Mary Claire and Sadie; and
WHEREAS,
as he has tirelessly provided knowledgeable guidance and inspiring leadership to
several generations of students and faculty, it is fitting and proper to honor
such a distinguished Georgian and citizen of the United States.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
the indispensable leadership of Brett Stanton, commend his more than 24 years of
service in public education, and extend to him their sincerest best wishes for
his continued health and success.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Brett
Stanton.
