RESOLUTION
Recognizing
Wane Hailes and the
Courier/Eco
Latino newspaper; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Wane Hailes, publisher of the
Courier/Eco
Latino newspaper, was named 2007 Minority
Small Business Champion of the Year by the United States Small Business
Administration; and
WHEREAS,
under the guiding and responsible hands of Wane Hailes and the
Courier/Eco
Latino newspaper, this outstanding
publication reaches both the African American and Hispanic markets in the
Columbus, Georgia, area; and
WHEREAS,
this award recognizes Mr. Hailes's dedication and efforts beyond his own
business responsibilities, to advance minority small business interests within
the community; and
WHEREAS,
this weekly publication was started by Wane Hailes in March of 2005 and has
grown from its humble beginnings to become one of the leading news media serving
minority markets; and
WHEREAS,
this remarkable newspaper has established a glowing reputation renowned
throughout Southeast Georgia for its ability to positively affect advocacy on
the part of minority businesses, schools, and civic organizations, as is
demonstrated by its receipt of the "Small Business Hometown Hero" award in 2006
from the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce and the Regional Award for
Minority Small Business Champion of the Year in 2007 by the Small Business
Administration; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Hailes's commitment to the community is further demonstrated by his service
on the Black Business Outreach Committee and the Hispanic Outreach Committee of
the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce, participation in Partnership in
Education with Marshall Middle School, and continuous sponsorship and
contributions to Hispanic organizations in the local community; and
WHEREAS,
his dedication to the newspaper is surpassed only by his devotion to his lovely
wife Cecelia Howard Hailes and their son Raymond; and
WHEREAS,
the success of the State of Georgia, the strength of our communities, and the
overall vitality of American society depend in great measure upon the dedication
of businesses and business people like the
Courier/Eco
Latino newspaper and Wane Hailes who use
their considerable talents and resources to serve the needs of the people;
and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of Wane
Hailes and this amazing business be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body recognizes the
Courier/Eco
Latino newspaper and Wane Hailes for their
valuable service and contributions to their local economy, communities, and
customers.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Wane Hailes.
