A RESOLUTION


Commending the High School Band Director's National Association and its association, the National High School Band Director's Hall of Fame, for being recognized as the nation's official National High School Band Director's Hall of Fame; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the High School Band Director's National Association is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion of music education in our nation's schools through educational service to the high school band directors of our country, serving as an advocate for the teaching of band in our public schools, and focusing on the educational significance of band in school curriculum; and

WHEREAS, the National High School Band Director's Hall of Fame is an association of the High School Band Director's National Association; and

WHEREAS, the National High School Band Director's Hall of Fame is a privately funded organization and maintains as its sole objective the recognition and promotion of our nation's outstanding high school band directors in all band areas, including concert, marching, jazz, band literature, band research, and solo and ensemble events; and

WHEREAS, the National High School Band Director's Hall of Fame was established in 1984 by Dr. Waite Riley Pickens and Mr. Bobby Cude and was previously located in Daytona Beach, Florida, until 2004; and

WHEREAS, upon the retirement of Dr. Pickens and Mr. Cude in 2004, Dr. Oliver C. Boone became the executive director of the National High School Band Director's Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Boone moved the National High School Band Director's Hall of Fame to Columbus, Georgia, and appointed Dr. George R. Corradino as deputy director; and

WHEREAS, the National High School Band Director's Hall of Fame is located in the Fine Arts Facility-One Arsenal Place on the campus of Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, the National High School Band Director's Hall of Fame, associated with the High School Band Director's National Association of Columbus, Georgia, is hereby recognized as the official Hall of Fame for our nation's high school band directors and is entitled to all recognitions and honors bestowed to this prestigious organization.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
commend the High School Band Director's National Association and its association, the National High School Band Director's Hall of Fame, for being recognized as the nation's official National High School Band Director's Hall of Fame.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Oliver C. Boone and Dr. George R. Corradino.
