RESOLUTION
Commending
Dr. Daniel K. Smith on the occasion of his retirement; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Dr. Daniel K. Smith celebrates his retirement after more than 40 years of
meritorious service to the Atlanta Public School System on April 13, 2007;
and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Smith has fulfilled his duties at Atlanta Area Technical School with an
exceptional level of expertise in such positions as a distributive education
teacher, marketing specialist, and economic development specialist, retiring
after 20 years of inspiring leadership as the director for Career and Technical
Education (CTE); and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Smith's own passion for learning has energized him throughout his career in
education, and he has been a tireless leader committed to the advancement of
Georgia's youth through programs such as the "High Schools That Work"
initiative; and
WHEREAS,
he has worked diligently to provide schools with the resources they need,
securing support for technology friendly CTE labs, developing partnerships with
major CTE organizations throughout the country, and providing instrumental
leadership in acquiring more than $15 million in grant funding; and
WHEREAS,
due to his experienced guidance, the CTE programs in three Georgia high schools,
Washington, Southside, and Carver, won the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce
"Partnership Cum Laude" award; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Smith continues to serve his community through a number of organizations,
including the Georgia Association of Career and Technical Education, the
Association for Career and Technical Education, and the National Academy
Foundation, and he is on the board of directors of the National Career Academy
Coalition; and
WHEREAS,
he has selflessly given four outstanding decades of his life toward the caring
guidance and wise supervision of Georgia's youth, and it is fitting and proper
that we wish him a long, abundant, and fulfilling retirement.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
the devoted service of this distinguished educator and citizen of Georgia, Dr.
Daniel K. Smith; commend his more than 40 years of superb leadership in the
realm of education; and extend to him their sincerest best wishes for the
future.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Daniel K. Smith.
