A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Naomi Wright Reed; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Naomi Wright Reed has achieved 32 continuous years in elementary school education, consisting of 14 years as a principal, four years as an assistant principal, and 14 years as a classroom teacher, having lived throughout the United States as a military wife; and

WHEREAS, she graduated from Savannah State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education, from Albany State University with a Master of Education degree in Administration in 1989 and in 1996 with an Education Specialist degree in Administration, and is currently a candidate for a Doctor of Education degree from Georgia Southern University; and

WHEREAS, in her career, she has served as a teacher at Craven County Schools in New Bern, North Carolina; a teacher at Shawnee School District in Lima, Ohio; a teacher at Dougherty County Schools in Albany, Georgia; an assistant principal at Lake Park Elementary School in Albany, Georgia; principal of Magnolia Elementary School in Albany, Georgia; principal of Haven Academy of Science, Math and Engineering in Savannah, Georgia; principal of Ridgeland Elementary School in Ridgeland, South Carolina; and currently holds the position of principal at Treutlen Elementary School in Soperton, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Treutlen Elementary School has excelled as one of Georgia´s most outstanding schools under her supervision and is a 2006 Academic Flag school, having met the state required "Adequate Yearly Progress" for five consecutive years, implemented a $675,000.00 Reading First grant, implemented the Scantek Modular Science/Technology Lab, the first such elementary school lab in the State of Georgia, and was named the 2005 Distinguished Title I School; and

WHEREAS, the schools under Ms. Reed´s supervision have received numerous awards and recognition, and it is only fitting that this body commend this outstanding educator for her invaluable service in delivering quality education to the young people of the State of Georgia.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend Naomi Wright Reed for her outstanding teaching career and her commitment to education for herself and her students.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Naomi Wright Reed.
