RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Jonesboro High School mock trial team on winning the 2007
Georgia High School Mock Trial Competition; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
on March 11, 2007, the Jonesboro High School mock trial team won the 2007
Georgia High School Mock Trial Competition; and
WHEREAS,
the Jonesboro High School mock trial team has a long and celebrated history as
they also won the state title in 1988, 2002, 2003, and 2006 and placed fifth
nationally in 2006 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Mock Trail Competition, a project of the Young Lawyers Division of
the State Bar of Georgia, helps students gain an understanding of the legal
system and improve their proficiency in such basic skills as listening,
speaking, reading, and reasoning while fostering cooperation among diverse
groups of young people; and
WHEREAS,
at this year´s state competition, which was held March 10-11, 2007, the
Jonesboro team faced outstanding competition in each round and emerged
victorious as state champions with a team composed of students Brian Cunningham,
Lindley Curtis, Kayla Delgado, Sandra Hagans, Lindsay Hargis, Jayda Hazell,
Jessica Jackson, Jurod James, Matt Mitchell, Braeden Orr, Laura Parkhouse, Kyle
Skinner, Joe Strickland, and Britt Walden; teacher coaches Anna and Andrew Cox;
attorney coaches Judge John C. Carbo III, Judge Deborah Benefield, and Tasha K.
Mosely; and student assistant coach Katie Powers.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body recognizes the Jonesboro
High School mock trial team, commends the team on winning the 2007 state
championship, and wishes the team well at the national trials to be held in
Dallas, Texas, on May 11 and 12, 2007.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Jonesboro High School
mock trial team.
