RESOLUTION
Commending
Mr. Don Griffin; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
born Donald Frederick Griffin on March 17, 1964 in Camilla, Georgia, he was
groomed for athletic success by his father, a Mitchell County Hall of Famer, and
received his first award at age 12, received high school awards for his
defensive play, was named "Most Valuable Player," played in the Georgia High
School All-Star Game, and was awarded a sports scholarship to Middle Tennessee
State University; and
WHEREAS,
in the proud tradition of his father, Mr. Griffin was inducted into the Mitchell
County Hall of Fame in 1999; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Don Griffin is a former professional football player who was selected by the
San Francisco 49ers in the 6th round of the 1986 NFL Draft, played 11 NFL
seasons from 1986-1996, was a Super Bowl XXIII and XXIV Champion and eight-time
NFC Champion with the 49ers, and also played with the Cleveland Browns from
1994-1995 and the Philadelphia Eagles in 1996; and
WHEREAS,
he was a part of the 1987 49ers defense which allowed the fewest total and
passing yards of any NFL team and a part of the 1994 Browns defense that allowed
the fewest points in the NFL; and
Whereas,
Don Griffin´s community and charity support includes his works with
organizations such as the American Cancer Society, the March of Dimes, Cobb
County Schools, the United Negro College Fund, and the American Red Cross, and
in addition, he has worked on projects to end Cystic Fibrosis, helped feed the
homeless, and has been a speaker for different organizations as a mentor for
young adults and teens; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Griffin was awarded a Certificate of Honor by the City of Richmond,
California, for his community involvement;
and
WHEREAS, Georgia is very proud to have one of the NFL´s champion defensive players and champion for community support as one of its own.

NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
recognizing the two-time Super Bowl Champion, Mr. Don Griffin.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Don Griffin.
