A RESOLUTION


Commending Colonel Debra Conrad Rondem on the occasion of her retirement; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, throughout her illustrious career, Colonel Debra Conrad Rondem has served the United States Army and the Selective Service System with utmost professionalism, loyalty, honesty, and integrity, making her an inspiration to all her friends and colleagues; and

WHEREAS, Colonel Rondem, a native of Lafayette, Louisiana, and a 1973 graduate of Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, entered enlisted military service in the United States Army Reserve in 1975 and received a direct commission as a Second Lieutenant, Adjutant General Corps, United States Army Reserve in 1977; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from the Adjutant General School Officer Basic Course in 1978, she served in a variety of commands for over 31 years including the 75th United States Army Maneuver Area Command in Houston, Texas, and the Selective Service System United States Army Reserve Element Detachments in Houston and in Marietta, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, she is a graduate of the Tactical Intelligence Staff Course, Adjutant General School Officer Advanced Course, and Command and General Staff College and served as Commander of the Joint Duty United States Army Reserve Element Detachment 2-7, Selective Service System, Marietta, Georgia, from 1995 to 2007; and

WHEREAS, her numerous military awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Selective Service System Meritorious Service Award with Bronze Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with seven oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Gold Hourglass device, and Army Service Ribbon, Georgia Army National Guard Commendation Medal; and
WHEREAS, her special, distinguished accomplishments as Area Office Manager and Commander of Detachment 2-7, Selective Service System, Marietta resulted in her selection as Selective Service Region II Senior Officer of the Year in 1999 and again in 2003 as the best Selective Service Senior Officer in the 15 state Region II; and

WHEREAS, Colonel Rondem has had an equally distinguished career in public education following her graduation in 1975 with a Master of Education from Sam Houston State University, a P-12 School Counseling Certificate from Sam Houston State University in 1982, and a P-12 Educational Leadership Certificate from the University of Georgia in 1997; and

WHEREAS, she is currently serving with distinction as Director of Student Support Services for the Forsyth County Board of Education in Cumming, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, on March 1, 2007, Colonel Rondem retired from the United States Army Reserve after over 32 years of dedicated service to this state and this country.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join to commend Colonel Debra Conrad Rondem for her 32 years of extraordinary service to her state and nation and thank her for her many contributions to Georgia and extend their best wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Colonel Debra Conrad Rondem.
