A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Connie and Randall Bullock and the Bullock Hope House; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, March 22, 2007, marks the official opening of the Bullock Hope House in Powder Springs, Georgia's first privately owned home dedicated to providing comfort, healing, and a peaceful environment to patients receiving cancer treatment and their families; and

WHEREAS, the Hope House is distinctively unique because instead of housing several patients as group facilities do, it accommodates only one patient and the patient's family, alleviating any necessity of the patient being separated from his or her family during the recovery and treatment period, as well as the need for families to find alternative, expensive accommodations such as hotels; and

WHEREAS, the Bullock Hope House was founded by Connie and Randall Bullock who have worked in conjunction with the American Cancer Society and the WellStar Cancer Program to offer their family homestead to aid families of patients who must travel long distances to the Atlanta area for treatment; and

WHEREAS, the Bullock foundation is a not for profit organization that receives support from many Georgia businesses to provide a comforting home atmosphere and help alleviate some of the financial worries associated with commuting and lodging for families enduring the hardship of cancer treatments for a family member; and

WHEREAS, according to American Cancer Society estimates, more than 30,000 Georgians are diagnosed with cancer each year, and more than 10,000 Georgians are forecast to lose their battle with this dreaded disease; and

WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Bullock have worked diligently to provide support for cancer patients and families throughout the continuum of care, and it is only fitting and proper that they be appropriately recognized for offering hope and compassion to the citizens of Georgia who are among those most in need.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize Connie and Randall Bullock for their selfless act and generosity which will bring comfort to many Georgia citizens and commend them for their tremendous gift, the establishment of the Bullock Hope House for recovering cancer patients and their families.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Connie and Randall Bullock.
