RESOLUTION
Honoring
the memory of Andrew Oswald and commending the Andrew Oswald Memorial Fund and
the Oswald family for the creation of the Andrew J. Oswald Memorial Scholarship;
and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Andrew Oswald Memorial Fund was created in honor of one of Georgia's most
accomplished young athletes, Andrew Oswald, who passed away in July, 2005, in a
tragic car accident; and
WHEREAS,
Andrew played lacrosse for Pope High School, where he holds the school's record
for goals in a single season, scoring 42 goals in 2004, and was honored as the
team's Most Valuable Offensive Player in his senior season; and
WHEREAS,
the Andrew J. Oswald Memorial Scholarship is an annual $1,000 scholarship
awarded to a high school senior who will be attending college and will be
playing varsity or club lacrosse; and
WHEREAS,
the Andrew Oswald Memorial Fund promotes the sport of lacrosse in Atlanta by
making equipment and other donations to youth and high school lacrosse programs
in the Atlanta area; and
WHEREAS,
as lacrosse was Andrew's passion, the Andrew J. Oswald Memorial Scholarship
serves his memory by allowing more young people to participate in the sport he
loved so much.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body honor the
memory of this fine Georgia athlete, Andrew Oswald, and commend the Andrew
Oswald Memorial Fund and the Oswald family for their outstanding philanthropy on
the behalf of youth sports.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to The Andrew Oswald Memorial
Fund, Ltd., and the family of Andrew Oswald.
