A RESOLUTION


Honoring and remembering the life of Julian Eschol Knight; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia lost one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Julian Eschol Knight on February 26, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Knight was a celebrated family man and a devoted servant of the community of Reynolds, Georgia, where he lived for 37 years; and

WHEREAS, he was employed with Flint Energies for 40 years, serving as chairman of Flint Energies Credit Union Board, and he was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, where he served a deacon and as a Sunday school teacher; and

WHEREAS, he served on the Reynolds City Council from 1986 to 1988 and served as Mayor of Reynolds for two terms, from 1990 to 1994 and from 2004 to 2007; and

WHEREAS, his dedication to serving his community was surpassed only by his love for his family, and he is survived by his wonderful wife, June T. Knight; son, Jonathan Julian Knight; stepson, Will Collins; daughters, Julie Knight Kendrick and Miiah Knight Eubanks; stepdaughters, Gracin Collins and Christy Vandiver; sisters, Doshia Scarborough, Myrt Radney, Louise K. Penn, Estell Yawn, and Esther Harrel; and 12 grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, in life he commanded the esteem of his fellow Georgians; at his death it is fitting and proper that we extend sympathy to his family, colleagues, and friends.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join together to express their deepest regret at the passing of Julian Eschol Knight and extend their most sincere condolences to his family.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Julian Eschol Knight.
