RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and congratulating Laura White on being awarded the 2007 Prudential Spirit of
Community Award; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Laura White, of Alpharetta, Georgia, and a student at Northview High School, has
achieved national recognition for exemplary volunteer service by receiving a
2007 Prudential Spirit of Community Award; and
WHEREAS,
this prestigious award, presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with
the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers
across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to their
communities; and
WHEREAS,
Laura earned this award by giving generously of her time and energy to her
community, organizing monthly swimming lessons for disadvantaged children in the
Atlanta area; and
WHEREAS,
Laura took on a number of responsibilities during her project, including
obtaining a grant for funding, recruiting volunteer instructors, preparing
lesson plans and schedules, and coordinating classes teaching children not only
how to swim but also how to be safe and have fun in the water; and
WHEREAS,
the success of the State of Georgia, the strength of our communities, and the
overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the
dedication of young people like Laura White who use their considerable talents
to serve others.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body honor and
congratulate Laura White as a recipient of a Prudential Spirit of Community
Award, recognize her outstanding record of volunteer service, peer leadership,
and community spirit, and extend best wishes for her continued success and
fulfillment.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Laura White.
