RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending a dedicated student and musician, Earl Simmons, Jr.; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Earl Simmons, Jr., is a member of the Florida A&M University Marching 100
Band, which performed with Prince during the halftime show of Super Bowl XLI;
and
WHEREAS,
Prince's halftime performance wowed audiences with a brilliant spectacle of
light and color, and his guitar chords and vocals were given all the greater
presence by the virtuoso performance of the Florida A&M University Band;
and
WHEREAS,
Earl Simmons, Jr., is the son of Frances Brown-Simmons and Earl Simmons, Sr.,
and is a 2003 graduate of Carver High School in Atlanta, Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
as the Florida A&M University Marching 100 Band marched onto the field at
Super Bowl XLI dressed in their dazzling orange and green uniforms, friends,
family, and neighbors at home watched attentively to see Earl perform for the
entire nation; and
WHEREAS,
as he has brought honor to his family and community, it is abundantly fitting
and proper for this body to honor the extraordinary accomplishments and academic
achievements of this outstanding young individual.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
Earl Simmons, Jr., for his outstanding dedication to excellence in academics,
commend his spirited performance with the Florida A&M University Marching
100 Band at Super Bowl XLI, and heartily extend to him the best of wishes for
his future success.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Earl Simmons, Jr.
