RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending William Herbert Thacker; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
William Herbert Thacker has given a lifetime of devoted service to the Wildlife
Resources Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources; and
WHEREAS,
he is a graduate of Cherokee County High School, and he obtained a double degree
in Criminal Justice and Conservation Law Enforcement at Brenau University;
and
WHEREAS,
he began his career in game management in 1977 in the Brunswick area,
transferring to Dawsonville later that year to serve as the area manager of the
Dawson Forest Wildlife Management Area; and
WHEREAS,
in 1977 the wildlife area measured 10,000 acres and has grown in 30 years to
include 23,000 acres and locations for a wide range of recreational activities,
such as hunting, fishing, hiking, bird watching, picnicking, horseback riding,
and canoeing the Amicalola and Etowah Rivers; and
WHEREAS,
he has lent his expertise to Georgia on a number of projects, including the
relief effort in Albany during the 1993 flood; the 1996 Olympic Games; and the
2004 G-8 Summit at Sea Island; and
WHEREAS,
he enjoys scuba diving, is a former captain of the Dawson County Fire and Rescue
dive team, and is a soccer coach with Dawson County Parks and Recreation;
and
WHEREAS,
his devotion to his community is surpassed only by his immense love for his
family, and he is the loving husband of Laura and the wonderful father of
William and Bradley.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
and commend William Herbert Thacker for his years of outstanding service to the
State of Georgia and extend to him their sincerest best wishes for his future
health and fulfillment.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to William Herbert Thacker.
