A RESOLUTION


Congratulating Dawson County High School on being named a Blue Ribbon school; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Dawson County High School joined six other schools in Georgia that were named Blue Ribbon schools by the United States Department of Education; and

WHEREAS, Dawson County High School was the only high school in Georgia awarded this prestigious honor; and

WHEREAS, the Blue Ribbon program recognizes schools that make significant progress in closing the achievement gap or whose students achieve at very high levels; and

WHEREAS, schools are selected based on one of two criteria: schools with at least 40 percent of their students from disadvantaged backgrounds that dramatically improve student performance to high levels on state tests, or schools whose students, regardless of background, achieve in the top 10 percent of their state on state tests; and

WHEREAS, Rick Brown is the principal at Dawson County High School and heads up a first-class staff of professionals; and

WHEREAS, it is only fitting the hard work of the students and faculty at Dawson County High School be commended.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body congratulate the students and faculty of Dawson County High School on being named a Blue Ribbon school.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Rick Brown, the principal of Dawson County High School.
