RESOLUTION
Expressing
regret at the passing of Mamie M. Randolph; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
former Georgia State Representative Mamie M. Randolph died October 28, 2005,
leaving a legacy of lives she touched wherever she went; and
WHEREAS,
born in New York to a large Cherokee family, her Cherokee name was Red Feather,
a moniker which she exemplified throughout her life. Even as a child, she was
often the life of the party, full of intelligence, beauty and wit, always
charming those around her. She had a natural zest for life and all the beauty
within it; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Randolph and her husband, Cecil Carl Randolph, moved to Atlanta in the
1970´s after running a successful restaurant in New York. Here she worked
serving the children in DeKalb County, delivering food to senior citizens and
helping with the family businesses; and
WHEREAS,
at age 74, Mrs. Randolph ran for and won a seat in the Georgia House of
Representatives. She served two terms, diligently fighting for her constituents
and championing the causes of senior citizens in the state. She received many
awards for outstanding service and was a member of numerous organizations,
including the NAACP, the Silver Haired Legislature, the Older Atlantans Task
Force, and the DeKalb County League of Women Voters; and
WHEREAS,
Representative Randolph is deeply missed by her family, friends and community.
Her vibrant personality and passionate dedication to all those around her
profoundly touched all those who met her and knew her.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body express
regret at the passing of Mamie M. Randolph and extend condolences to the
grieving family and friends.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mamie M. Randolph.
