Senate Resolution 38

A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. Lamar Green for his courageous and exemplary contributions to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Lamar Green has selflessly given hundreds of hours of volunteer service to the
hurricane disaster areas of the Gulf Coast on at least ten trips; and

WHEREAS, as the leader of the Men´s Mission Team at Hillside United Methodist Church, he has organized several group expeditions to aid individuals in Pascagoula and Biloxi to clean up and rebuild their homes; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Green and his team have cleaned the insides of at least 19 flooded homes which contained anywhere from four to eight feet of seawater on the inside; and

WHEREAS, in addition to the strenuous and sometimes dirty physical labor of hurricane relief, Mr. Green´s volunteers have hauled gifts and much needed supplies to hurricane victims, including furniture, clothing, floor coverings, drywall, and insulation; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Green is also involved in a variety of charitable activities such as the Billy Graham Evangelist Association, the Christian Samaritan´s Purse International Disaster Relief Team, and the Cherokee Family Violence Center; and

WHEREAS, out of compassion for those whose homes have been destroyed, Lamar Green has reached out with his heart as well as with his hands to help others in need, and has provided an excellent service to the United States as well as the State of Georgia.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body heartily and gratefully commend Mr. Lamar Green for his sacrifice and diligence on the behalf of Hurricane Katrina victims and for his continued service to his community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Lamar Green.
