A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Andrew P. Morley, Jr., M.D., for his outstanding public service; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the health and well-being of the citizens of our state depend on access to high-quality physicians, well distributed throughout the state to meet the health care needs of all citizens; and

WHEREAS, the state has long struggled with ensuring that an appropriate number of primary care and specialist physicians exist in all areas of the state; and

WHEREAS, the Board for Physician Workforce was created in 1976 (then known as the Joint Board for Family Practice) with the purpose of ensuring that all Georgians have access to a physician when needed; and

WHEREAS, the work of the Board is guided through the dedicated service of practicing health care professionals like Dr. Morley; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Morley served on the Board from 1983 to 2006, more than 20 years, helping to guide the Board as it developed meaningful and effective programs designed to build Georgia's primary care physician workforce; and

WHEREAS, through dedicated leadership and cooperative spirit, Dr. Morley supported the work of the Georgia Board for Physician Workforce to build and establish it as an excellent resource serving the state in managing scarce state resources to guide the work of the medical education system in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Georgia saw substantial improvements take place in its physician workforce, in part through the dedicated efforts of Dr. Morley and the Georgia Board for Physician Workforce.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in recognizing and commending Dr. Andrew P. Morley, Jr., for his many years of outstanding public service to the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Morley.
