A RESOLUTION


Commending the American Probation and Parole Association; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia is proud to host the American Probation and Parole Association Winter Training Institute February 11-14, 2007; and

WHEREAS, the American Probation and Parole Association is an international nonprofit organization that is the vanguard in exploring, developing, and implementing positive offender supervision strategies in the field of community corrections; and

WHEREAS, Georgia´s probation and parole officers are dedicated and trained professionals responsible for supervising thousands of adult and juvenile offenders in our communities, often at great personal sacrifice to themselves and their families; and

WHEREAS, probation and parole officers in Georgia work successfully in partnership with many community agencies and groups to provide meaningful supervision and referrals for offenders; and

WHEREAS, the American Probation and Parole Association Training Institute allows probation and parole officers the opportunity to attend and participate in training workshops that provide them with the most current and effective information on how to make our communities safer; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Department of Corrections, the State Board of Pardons and Paroles, the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice, and the DeKalb County State Court Probation Department jointly sponsor the American Probation and Parole Association in order to provide superior education for their officers and to help ensure a healthier and safer Georgia; and

WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper that the American Probation and Parole Association be recognized for their outstanding contributions and service to the probation and parole officers of this state.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the American Probation and Parole Association, wish them success at their winter training institute, and extend their sincere gratitude for the many selfless officers who labor on behalf of their fellow citizens.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the American Probation and Parole Association.
