RESOLUTION
Commending
Bishop Eddie L. Long; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Bishop Eddie L. Long answered his first call to the service of the Lord at New
Birth Missionary Baptist Church in 1987; and
WHEREAS,
whether the task is preparing a sermon, visiting the sick, counseling the
troubled, or ministering through love and understanding, Bishop Long shows the
energy, devotion, and commitment truly reflective of divine guidance;
and
WHEREAS,
the unmatched spiritual assistance offered by Bishop Long is a source of
strength, inspiration, and direction for persons in all walks of life and from
all economic strata; and
WHEREAS,
his lifetime of serving God's plan has continued through his 19 years of
enlightened stewardship as senior pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church;
and
WHEREAS,
under his guiding heart and gentle hands, New Birth Missionary Baptist Church
has blossomed as its congregation increased from 300 to over 25,000 members and
thrived as an institution that ministers to the congregation and community
through the countless outreach programs and community-empowering projects;
and
WHEREAS,
his leadership has been responsible for the construction of the current church
health and fitness center project which consists of a 78,000 square foot
facility which can accommodate 3,500 people for various special events and
includes racquetball courts, aerobics classes, personal training sessions,
massage therapy sessions, and more; and
WHEREAS,
this extraordinary facility will be dedicated in honor of Bishop Long as "The
Bishop Eddie L. Long Family Life Center" and, on this special occasion, it is
abundantly fitting and proper to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of
the dynamic ministry of this devout and pious servant of the Lord.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join to
commend Bishop Eddie L. Long for his unparalleled record of community service
and his innumerable good works rendered on behalf of persons in need, to
congratulate him upon the grand occasion of the dedication of "The Bishop Eddie
L. Long Family Life Center," and extend to him the most sincere best wishes for
continued health and happiness.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Bishop Eddie L. Long.
