Senate Resolution 160

A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in McDonough, Georgia; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in McDonough, Georgia, was founded in 1867 as Kent Chapel by Brother Lowe Tomlinson, Reverend Joe Laney, and Reverend C. A. Kent; and

WHEREAS, the Reverend C. A. Kent was the first official pastor of the church; and

WHEREAS, the congregation has grown and expanded from an original one-room, wood-frame structure south of McDonough to its most recent building on ten acres of land located on Race Track Road; and

WHEREAS, the congregation is now led by the dynamic and innovative leadership of Reverend Woodrow Williams; and

WHEREAS, the 139th anniversary of the founding of the church is an occasion to recognize and recall the distinguished history of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and its commitment to a remarkable record of Christian service; and

WHEREAS, Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church has many ministries which serve the surrounding community and is diligently pursuing its mission and purpose of advancing the kingdom of Jesus Christ through public worship, preaching of the Gospel, personal evangelism, missionary endeavors, and Christian education; and

WHEREAS, Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church is continuing its mission of evangelism and helping people and reaching out to the community in providing spiritual guidance, comfort, and hope in fulfillment of its mission.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join to recognize the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church on the occasion of its 139th anniversary and the Reverend Woodrow Williams and the entire congregation are commended for their invaluable contributions and service to the community and the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.
