A RESOLUTION


Commending the Sister City Program and recognizing the partnership between Cobb County, Georgia, and Seongdong-Gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Sister Cities Program is designed to connect communities on a personal level; and

WHEREAS, the program is a nonprofit citizen diplomacy network governed by a 24 member elected board of directors; and

WHEREAS, the Sister Cities Program´s strives to build global cooperation at the local level, to promote cultural understanding, and to stimulate economic development; and

WHEREAS, other goals of the program include developing partnerships between U.S. cities, counties, and states with similar jurisdictions in other nations, providing opportunities to experience and explore other cultures, and creating environments through which communities can creatively solve problems through reciprocal exchanges; and

WHEREAS, Cobb County, Georgia, and Seongdong-Gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea have entered into a Sister City relationship and hope to build a cultural partnership that will last for generations to come.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the Sister Cities Program and recognizing the partnership entered into by Cobb County, Georgia and Seongdong-Gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Cobb County, Georgia and Seongdong-Gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea.
