RESOLUTION
Commending
Officer Paul Ascenzo; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Officer Paul Ascenzo has contributed greatly to Gwinnett County in ways that
have been of tremendous benefit to the residents of that county;
and
WHEREAS,
he was recently awarded the Silver Medal of Valor at the 2008 Valor Awards at
the Hilton Atlanta Northeast hotel in Norcross to honor public safety
professionals; and
WHEREAS,
Officer Ascenzo was so honored because of the heroic and extraordinary actions
taken on June 8, 2007, when a man robbed a gas station in Buford, fought an
officer, and then sped away in a stolen police patrol car before crashing into a
citizen´s pickup truck near the Buford Post Office, whereupon he began
ramming the pickup repeatedly in an attempt to get away; and
WHEREAS,
due to the actions of Officer Ascenzo, the suspect was stopped before he could
cause any more harm; and
WHEREAS,
by his uncommon dedication to his community and its quality of life, Gwinnett
Police Officer Ascenzo is of invaluable service to his community and the State
of Georgia.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Officer Paul Ascenzo for his outstanding public service and express their
sincere appreciation.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Paul Ascenzo.
