A RESOLUTION


Commending and thanking Senator Michael S. Meyer von Bremen for his many years of distinguished public service and conveying to him the best wishes of the Georgia State Senate; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Senator Michael S. Meyer von Bremen, a Democrat from Albany who represents the 12th Senatorial District in the Georgia State Senate, has announced his intention to retire from the Senate at the conclusion of his current term, following many years of distinguished public service on behalf of his district and this state; and

WHEREAS, his always courteous, dignified, effective, and highly professional public service and leadership has made his name dear to the hearts of his friends, constituents, colleagues, and fellow citizens alike, and he will be sorely missed in the Senate; and

WHEREAS, Senator Meyer von Bremen was elected to the State Senate in 1998 to represent the 12th Senatorial District, which includes all of Baker, Calhoun, Clay, Dougherty, Randolph, Terrell, and Quitman counties and portions of Mitchell County; and

WHEREAS, Senator Meyer von Bremen serves as chairman of the Special Judiciary committee. He also serves as a member of the Senate Appropriations, Ethics, Judiciary and Natural Resources committees; and

WHEREAS, born August 19, 1957, Senator Meyer von Bremen attended public schools in Albany and graduated from Mercer University in Macon in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He earned his law degree from Mercer in 1983; and

WHEREAS, Senator Meyer von Bremen is a partner in the law firm of Hall, Booth, Smith and Slover, P.C., where he manages their Albany office. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and the American Bar Association, a member and past president of the Dougherty Circuit Bar Association and the Albany Sertoma Club, a past president of the Alumni Association for Mercer University, and an arbitrator and mediator on the panel of South Georgia ADR; and

WHEREAS, an Eagle Scout, Senator Meyer von Bremen is active in community and civic affairs; and

WHEREAS, he is married to the former Peggy Hicks, and they have two children, Meg and Welsley. They are members of the Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church in Albany, where Senator Meyer von Bremen has served on the Administrative Board and the Board of Trustees and is a member of the Chancel Choir; and

WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper that he be recognized by this body.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Senator Michael S. Meyer von Bremen for his many years of distinguished public service, thank him for his friendship, and convey to him their best wishes for the future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Senator Michael S. Meyer von Bremen.
