RESOLUTION
Commending
the Rockdale County Sheriff's Department; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
during the recent tornado which severely damaged downtown Atlanta on Friday,
March 14, 2008, the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office responded by sending
emergency vehicles along with personnel to assist Atlanta police officers and
fire fighters; and
WHEREAS,
arriving on Saturday morning was a mobile command vehicle, which housed computer
terminals, televisions, and other emergency monitoring equipment, and was used
by the Atlanta Police and Fire Departments as a 24-hour command center; and
WHEREAS,
Sheriff Jeff Wigington, along with 12 Rockdale County Sheriff's Department
employees, arrived on the scene to assist in the emergency operations and to
operate the mobile command center; and
WHEREAS,
the second vehicle coming from Rockdale County was a mobile shelter vehicle
containing 100 cots and other related comfort necessities, supported by two
Rockdale County sheriff's deputies, that remained at the scene from Saturday,
March 15 through Thursday, March 20, 2008; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the assistance provided by the
Rockdale County Sheriff's Department during the recent tornado damage in Atlanta
be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join
together to commend the Rockdale County Sheriff's Department for their
outstanding assistance during the recent storms in Atlanta.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is hereby authorized and
directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Rockdale
County Sheriff Jeff Wigington.
