RESOLUTION
Commending
Annie Lee Boggs Latimer; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Annie Lee Boggs Latimer was born on January 10, 1907, in Milton County, Georgia,
to Elizabeth and Ben Boggs and this year she will enjoy the rare distinction of
celebrating her 100th birthday; and
WHEREAS,
she attended Duluth High School, Young Harris College, and the University of
Georgia and was a beloved teacher in Gwinnett and Cobb counties for over 30
years; and
WHEREAS,
she is a stalwart member of Duluth First United Methodist Church;
and
WHEREAS,
on June 12, 1937, she married William B. Latimer, who was a manager for the
Georgia Power Company for over 40 years, and remained married for 61 wonderful
years until his passing in 1998; and
WHEREAS,
she is the mother of Ben W. Latimer and the mother-in-law of Rachel H. Latimer,
is an inspiration for her two grandsons and their wives, Bill and Lynn Latimer
and Mike and Laura Latimer, and is adored by her five great-grandchildren,
Brian, Sara, Claire, Gabrielle, and Andrew; and
WHEREAS,
she has imparted wisdom and positive values to all of the many students who were
in her classes and benefitted from her teaching; and
WHEREAS,
the love, direction, caring, devotion, patience, support, and understanding she
has demonstrated have provided the foundation and framework of success in which
all of her family members have developed and flourished; and
WHEREAS,
this distinguished senior gentlewoman has given inspiration to many through her
high ideals, morals, and deep concern for her fellow citizens and she possesses
the vast wisdom which comes only through experience and the strength of
character which is achieved through overcoming the many challenges of life;
and
WHEREAS,
she is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and by the example she has made
of her life, she makes this world a better place in which to live, and it is
only fitting and proper that she be appropriately recognized during this very
special and memorable time of her life.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body heartily commends Annie
Lee Boggs Latimer for her efficient, effective, unselfish, dedicated, and loving
service to the members of her family and the citizens of her community and
state; congratulates her on the remarkable occasion of her 100th birthday; and
extends to her its most sincere best wishes for continued health and
happiness.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Annie Lee Boggs Latimer.
