RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Richard "Dick" Pettys on the occasion of his retirement from
InsiderAdvantageGeorgia
and covering the General Assembly; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Richard "Dick" Pettys was born on November 25, 1946, in Atlanta, Georgia,
and he is a loving husband to Marian Stephanie Suessmith, and a devoted father
to their three sons, Richard R. Pettys, Jr., William H. Pettys II, and Clement
N. Pettys; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Richard "Dick" Pettys has long been recognized by the citizens of this
state for the vital role that he has played in political reporting under the
gold dome and for his deep personal commitment to fairness and the accurate
dissemination of the news; and
WHEREAS,
he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time,
talents, and energy toward the betterment of his state as evidenced dramatically
by his more than three decades of dedicated service as a reporter covering
politics and state government first for the Associated Press; and more recently
for
InsiderAdvantageGeorgia,
the online political and business newsletter founded first in print and later
placed on the web; and
WHEREAS,
during his tenure with Associated Press and
InsiderAdvantageGeorgia,
he has been responsible for keeping politicians honest, and no one has greater
depth of knowledge about what goes on in the political and corporate communities
in our state, a knowledge he used to keep the public well informed and give
public servants the ability to make better policy; and
WHEREAS,
this beloved individual has exhibited extraordinary devotion to duty,
outstanding loyalty, fine leadership, and meticulous attention to detail in all
his endeavors which have been recognized by his associates under the gold dome
and throughout state government; and
WHEREAS,
his significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience
and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, his knowledge of where to go and how to
get the story first, and his ability to work alongside the members of the
General Assembly, gaining their trust while remaining an honest critic, have
earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues, associates, and the
members of this body; and
WHEREAS,
he is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; his loyalty, competency,
reliability, and enthusiasm have distinguished his superlative service to this
state.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Mr. Richard "Dick" Pettys for his many decades of efficient, effective,
unselfish, and dedicated public service to the citizens of his state and extend
to him their most sincere best wishes for continued health and
happiness.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Richard "Dick" Pettys.
