RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Glenn Hills Spartans and Lady Spartans basketball teams and
declaring March 18, 2008, as "Glenn Hills Day"; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Glenn Hills Spartans and Lady Spartans basketball teams recently made it to
the Final Four competition in Macon, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
it is the first time in Richmond County history that both high school basketball
teams, boys and girls, made it to the Final Four competition; and
WHEREAS,
the Glenn Hills Spartans, under the direction of Coach Richard Wallace, had a
winning streak of 22 consecutive wins after defeating Washington County 56-44,
which advanced them on to the Final Four in Macon where they won the AAA State
Championship; and
WHEREAS,
the Lady Spartans, under the direction of Coach Bernard Bowman advanced to the
Final Four by knocking off Cairo 46-36; and
WHEREAS,
hard work, determination, skill, nerves of steel, and a little luck took these
two teams to the Final Four; and
WHEREAS,
the record of victories amassed by both these teams is the result of the
talents, athletic abilities, training, and hard work of the team members; the
outstanding leadership of their coaches, Richard Wallace and Bernard Bowman;
and the support of their school faculty, particularly Principal Jessie Chambers,
and their families, the community, and friends; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that this body recognize with particularity
the outstanding accomplishments of these extraordinary teams.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
and commend the Glenn Hills Spartans and Lady Spartans basketball teams, declare
March 18, 2008, as "Glenn Hills Day," and extend to the team members and their
coaches the best of wishes for continued success in life and on the
court.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to Principal Jessie Chambers,
Coaches Bernard Bowman and Richard Wallace, and to the Glenn Hills Spartans and
Lady Spartans.
