A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending First Sergeant Ernest B."Bruce" Oliver on the occasion of his retirement from the Georgia Army National Guard; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, our nation's security continues to rely on patriotic men and women who put their personal lives on hold in order to place themselves in harm's way to protect the freedoms that all United States citizens cherish; and

WHEREAS, First Sergeant Ernest B."Bruce" Oliver has long been recognized by the citizens of this nation for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of the United States; and

WHEREAS, this extraordinary man has diligently and conscientiously served his country with honor and distinction as a member of the United States Marine Corps and the Georgia Army National Guard Army where he has served his country for a total of 27 years, joining the Marine Corps in 1966 and serving as a military policeman during the Vietnam War, and upon completion of that tour of duty, he joined the Georgia Army National Guard where he will retire as First Sergeant of Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 1st, with 21 years of faithful service; and

WHEREAS, he is a soldier's soldier and his heroism, valor, and leadership ability have been recognized by his earning the Bronze Star Medal with "V" device, Navy Achievement Commendation Medal with "V" device, Presidential Unit Citation for service with the Marines, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Marine Corps Combat Action Ribbon, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with "M" device, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Combat Action Badge, and Georgia Special Operations Ribbon; and

WHEREAS, his selfless and heroic actions stand as a shining tribute to the strength of human spirit and willpower, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished American be recognized appropriately.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY SENATE that the members of this body commend First Sergeant Earnest B. "Bruce" Oliver for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the citizens of his country and state, extend to him their most sincere congratulations on the occasion of his retirement, and wish him the best of health and happiness for the future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to First Sergeant Earnest B. "Bruce" Oliver.
