A
RESOLUTION
Expressing
regret at the passing of Bob Boren; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia recently lost one of its finest and most distinguished
citizens with the passing of Bob Boren; and
WHEREAS,
a 33 year police veteran, Bob Boren served as assistant chief of the Albany
Police Department for 17 years before retiring as interim chief in 2006;
and
WHEREAS,
he was well known for his straight talk, tireless advocacy of his officers, and
compassion for victims of crime; and
WHEREAS,
during his tenure he oversaw the police response to the floods of 1994 and 1998,
worked with officers to reduce crime by 50 percent over a ten-year period, and
pushed for the construction of what is now known as the Law Enforcement Center,
a 78,000 square foot, $14.5 million home to the Albany Police Department and
other city agencies; and
WHEREAS,
he also sat on several local charitable boards including the Lily Pad Center,
which serves sexual assault victims; and
WHEREAS,
the organization credits Bob Boren as a founding board member with getting the
organization off the ground, and in honor of his dedication and commitment have
formed the Bob Boren Center for Sexual Assault research, prevention, and
education to serve as a living legacy of his compassion for victims of crime;
and
WHEREAS,
this beloved individual exhibited extraordinary devotion to duty, outstanding
loyalty, fine leadership, and meticulous attention to detail in all his duties
throughout his law enforcement career; and
WHEREAS,
the passing of this generous, kind, and devoted family man leaves an unfillable
void in the hearts and lives of his family and friends.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body express
their deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of Bob Boren; commend the
care, courage, sympathy, and selfless dedication he exhibited in his life´s
work; and extend to his family their utmost appreciation for his so purely and
truly defining for others the meaning of service to his community and the State
of Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Bob Boren.
