A RESOLUTION


Expressing congratulations and best wishes to Alice Sharpe Blount on the occasion of her 100th birthday; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Alice Sharpe Blount was born on February 7, 1907, as the ninth child of Charlie and Mary Ann Collins Sharpe of Montgomery County, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, she married Peter James Blount on October 23, 1923, and they had 11 children, four girls and seven boys; and

WHEREAS, the family relocated to Toombs County in January of 1925, where they have lived and farmed to this day; and

WHEREAS, Alice devoted herself wholeheartedly to her children, determined that every member of her family would receive a thorough formal education, and six of her children and more than 20 of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren have received at least an undergraduate degree; and

WHEREAS, Alice is a devoted servant of the Lord and has been an active and loyal member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Alston since 1925 and has served as Deaconess and Mother of the Church; and

WHEREAS, Alice Sharpe Blount has been an adamantine cornerstone of her family, an indispensable member of her community, and a model Georgian.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body hereby recognizes the abundant and inspirational life of Alice Sharpe Blount and extends the most sincere congratulations and best wishes on the occasion of her 100th birthday.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Alice Sharpe Blount.
